Vacation Time & Pay
Vacation Time & Pay: every employee, whether salary or hourly, is entitled to vacation time from work with pay. Vacation time is legally required to be taken in all cases and cannot be waived by the employee. An employer cannot require an employee to take less than one week of entitled time off.See Administration Manual: Tab 4, Part 4.3, #5
For hourly employees, a percentage of each payroll amount must be accrued and set aside for when the employee takes time off. This percentage is based on years of employment in increments as outlined by the Labour Standards of the Province. Salary employees are entitled to regular salary amounts in lieu of time taken.
In some cases, vacation pay earned may be paid on each payroll cheque. This can only be done through written approval by the employee and cannot be mandated by the church. It is highly recommended that vacation pay be accumulated and accrued on behalf of the employee so there is sufficient funds available to the employee when they take vacation time.
General Holidays: every employee is entitled to General Holidays off with pay. Dates and standards for payment may vary from province to province. Please consult the Employment Standards of the applicable province for further details.
