This past Monday, a team of 10 teens and 11 adults, from 11 years old to 77 years old, from Turtle Lake Mission in Saskatchewan parked their bus at the Cornerstone Foursquare Church in Calgary and departed from the Calgary International Airport to the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. This team of 21 people, accompanied by John Overholt, are going to be doing construction on an open air church, hosting a children's festival, and doing door to door ministry with opportunities to present the gospel. They may also have the chance to work at a local food bank and mission during their week of ministry. The team has arrived safely and would appreciate your prayers as they minister!
Join the Foursquare Disaster Relief team in prayer for the South Pacific islands and specifically Tonga as a category 4 storm hit the island nation.
The center of powerful cyclone Gita passed just south of Tonga bringing damaging winds, flooding rain and significant storm surge.
At its closest approach to Tonga, Gita was equal to a Category 4 hurricane in the Atlantic and east Pacific oceans with sustained winds of 232 km/h (144 mph). Tonga's Parliament House was completely destroyed in the storm's fury
Foursquare Disaster Relief has sent in David Bickley, FMI Missionary from Fiji to assess the needs in Tonga, provide relief, meet with the leaders there, and plan a response. Please pray for safe travel, wisdom, and direction.
One of the photos included below is a Foursquare Church member's home that was devastated by the cyclone. Please pray as we reach out to families in our churches, and reach out to those in the community with compassion and love.

"This January, over 900 children were sponsored in 30 communities in Limon, Turrialba and Perez. Thank you to all who sponsored children, to those who partnered in prayer, and to the incredible Costa Rican team who served faithfully with their whole hearts over the last month!" -Lana Davidson-
Through Costa Rica Kids you can provide a child with everything they need to begin the school year. Each child will receive a backpack, uniform, strong sturdy shoes, and school supplies (pens, pencils, erasers, pencil crayons, geometry sets, etc.). Children are chosen based on their family situation (financial and otherwise) from poor communities with little resources.
Each child receives their package in January to prepare for the start of school in February. Community outreach (songs, dramas, stories, etc.) take place twice a year in both January and July.
To sponsor a child, through a one time annual payment of $100, go to www.foursquare.ca/costa-rica-kids.html.
It's that time of year! Spring is coming and we've heard that some of you in our Canadian Foursquare family have missions trips on the calendar. We'd love to hear from you about where you are going, what you will be doing, and even some tips to share with others who will be taking teams this year. Photos to go with your update are welcome if they do not pose a security risk to your team. You can send us your story by Facebook messaging us at our Canadian Foursquare Missions page or emailing [email protected]
