Matt & Deanna DelBlanc, from Gateway Foursquare Church in Campbell River, are heading out on a 2 week short term missions trip to Sweden this Friday. They will be serving alongside Brett and Tammy Toft who are FMI missionaries (Foursquare Missions International) to the Nordic nations of Scandinavia and the Baltics. They will be participating in a regional camp for Foursquare leaders and their families. The primary goals of the trip are to encourage and connect with our Foursquare family in northern Europe that is desperate for a new move of God in the face of growing secularism and decline in the church. Please pray for their effectiveness and safety, and for their 3 kids who will be staying home in BC.
Hello followers, meet Christine! She is leading a short-term missions trip to Costa Rica & Nicaragua this coming fall beginning September 28 from the Gateway Foursquare Church in Campbell River, BC.
Here is her report on the purpose of this trip and how you can participate: "This will be my 5th time there having worked with John Overholt the first 4 times. There is only 3 of us, although there is still room for more. One of our main projects in Playas del Coco this trip will be to build community gardens in two locations. This is a project that has been on my heart for a couple of years as they can be used to help feed the community around the local churches and any excess can be sold for income for the churches.
We will also be heading into Nicaragua for the first time to get to know a local church there and see how we can come along side and help them also.
If anyone would like to donate to these projects they can send it to Gateway Foursquare Church in Campbell River designated for Costa Rica. Also, your prayers will be much appreciated."
A reminder that the Walk/Run/Ride for Foursquare Kids is coming up soon! You can still walk/run/ride with a Foursquare church near you, sign up a team and set a date, or give towards one of the teams appearing at the link below. All proceeds to go to support our children's sponsorship programs in Costa Rica and India. Our Canadian Foursquare Missions Coordinator, Lana Davidson, is currently in Costa Rica working with the Costa Rica kids teams on discipling and reaching out to the families involved. Check out the photo album of the work they are doing!
What Do You See?
A picture of a tree was put up on the screen this week at the Foursquare Missions International Training and we were challenged to see through more than one lens. Do we see lumber, shade, firewood or an object of worship?
Culture is all about how we see and the judgement call we make as a result. Often we call something good or right, bad or wrong, when it reality, it’s just different. In the area of missions, this is where the conflict lives.
This week, in Los Angeles, California, twenty-seven people are completing the one week level one missionary training, while nine others complete the two week level three training. Level three is the last stage before deployment.
There are twenty-five presenters that make all of this possible at a very intentional location that ensures interaction, relationship building, and serving.
With two days remaining, so far we as participants have heard about the Foursquare four stage model of infinitely reproducible ministry along with its global distinctives and values. We talked about security on the field (which is why you won't see faces here), understanding cultural context, self-care, preparation, the process for becoming a long-term missionary, and the policy in place that guides people through the process. We also engaged in an essential ministry practicum that moved people out of their comfort zone to do what Jesus did. Participants practiced leading people to Jesus, hearing from God, leading people in the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and praying that people would be healed and delivered.
It is amazing to witness this group of people count the cost and the impact it will have on them and their families. It is strange to realize that these people I have met over the past three days are people who I may not see again as they depart to countries far from my own. These are people with vision for the fields that are ready for harvest and with a heart to make sure that all will hear the gospel. Remember this group of people in your prayers as they walk through the different levels of training, raise their funds for the field, and for many, deploy in the near future.
Also, remember that the world is a big place with many unreached people groups. There is always room for more workers to bring in the harvest and there are always people ready to equip you to effectively reach our world. That is why Canadian Foursquare Missions exists, to inspire and equip people to “go and make disciples of all the nations”.
I had a chance to meet up with the Sunshine Hills team from Delta, BC partway through their journey as they crossed over from Mexico back into the US today. They were featured last week in one of our posts as they departed. The team is healthy and they expressed their joy at experiencing significant moments of partnership with the Foursquare churches in Baja California as they worked together to host a family camp for the area churches.
They heard a testimony of God's healing resulting from ministry at camp the previous year, they saw God multiply food as they adapted to changes in the meal plans, they had one team member baptized in the Holy Spirit, and they were encouraged by the growth witnessed in everyone who participated. This was the first short-term missions trip for five of their team members.
They will continue their drive home this week and would appreciate your continued prayers!
Note: One team member did not make the photo opportunity but is well and did not get left behind;)
After a long afternoon and evening flying from Calgary to Los Angeles, I arrived at House On The Hill.
Now you may have some questions: What is House On the Hill? Why are we talking about someone going from Calgary to LA? Or, what in the world does any of the above have to do with Foursquare Missions in Canada?
This week, here in Los Angeles at this beautiful location, there are people completing the Level One training to go into the mission field long term. This training is done through Foursquare Missions International and it is where we in Canada, look to send those who feel called to missions to begin their journey.
With this year's focus in Canadian Foursquare Missions being all about mobilization, the Canadian Foursquare Missions Committee felt is was important that we gain a full understanding of the training our missionaries receive. We also want to establish a clear process for those feeling the call to engage in foreign missions long term.
So this week, I will be here in LA doing the training along with some of those being equipped for the mission field. I'll be learning, taking notes, and asking questions.
So far, in preparation for this week, each participant was asked to read three different texts, complete a spiritual gifts tests, and do research into the security risks or concerns in the country they wish to minister.
Each book looked at missions from a different vantage point. Each book challenged my thinking and previous ideas, and they definitely wet my appetite for the week ahead.
As the week continues, I'll look to post a couple of more updates. Why? Because we as a CFM team are confident of that there are more of you out there who have been sensing that tug and wondering where to get started. I hope as you read, you will gain a clearer sense of God's leading and take that next step:)
Lana Davidson, our Canadian Foursquare Missions Director, is currently in Costa Rica on behalf of Costa Rica Kids. Here's a brief update recently posted from her page:
"Second day in CR Kids tour, we feel blessed for this time spent with the families, a good work day with an exceptional team, here some pictures of La Lucha community in Limon."
She and her team are presently doing community outreach with the families and children of our Costa Rica Kids sponsorship program.
To give to our Foursquare Kids, in both Costa Rica and India, you can plan to participate in the upcoming Walk/Run/Ride for Foursquare Kids or you can go to the following link:
A short-term missions team from Sunshine Hills Church in Delta, BC is on the road today as they travel by vehicle to the Foursquare churches in the Baja region (Valle de la Trinidad).
This team of 15 will be providing a family camp that will strengthen the Mexicali Region Foursquare Churches. They will lead ministry to Kids, Youth and Adults, as well as worship thru music in Spanish. They will also prepare and serve 7 home-cooked meals for approximately 250 participants.
Keep this team in your prayers as they travel and pray for favor at each of the borders.
